The Keys to The Cloud: Unlock the Value of Cloud C

The Keys to The Cloud: Unlock the Value of Cloud C:

"To reap the benefits of cloud – on-demand self-service, resource pooling, rapid elasticity, measured service, business continuity and resilience, etc. – you need the right tools to effectively manage the cloud's seemingly unlimited computing capacity. In fact, you need to seamlessly manage workloads operating in the cloud with the same ease, agility, compliance and control as with your own on-premise resources. This requires taking workload automation to the next level, using the next generation of cloud-enabled and aware automation tools to maximize efficiency and minimize cost. These tools are the missing key for many organizations, and without them, many promising cloud computing initiatives in 2012 will turn out to be nonstarters"

Workload Automation Trends and Predictions for 2012 « Torsten Volk:

"Business service management (BSM) solutions are key to tying the health of your company’s IT services to the corresponding business requirements. Without including workload automation performance, BSM dashboards often get blindsided by sudden failures, due to workload problems. Therefore, in 2012 we will see a growing trend toward integrating workload automation solutions with BSM dashboards, as well as with configuration management systems and IT process automation implementations

System z is making a comeback — The mainframe is dead, long live the mainframeThe Info-Tech Research Blog | The Info-Tech Research Blog:

"To paraphrase Mark Twain, the rumors of the mainframe’s death have been greatly exaggerated. Not only is the mainframe not going away, there are early signs of a resurgence:

80 new mainframe clients between July 2010 and October 2011.
86% year-over-year MIPS growth reported in 2011 Q2.
The majority of organizations are adding capacity to their mainframes, not reducing capacity.
So what has sparked this comeback?"

NXP NFC electric motorcycle puts in an appearance at CES Las Vegas

NXP NFC electric motorcycle puts in an appearance at CES Las Vegas:

"the NXP electric motorcycle uses NFC in innovative ways. It's also not a gas (petrol) powered device and runs on electricity - but the firm added a few more gadgets to the vehicle. Mounted on top of the NXP electric motorcycle is a panel that houses an LCD screen and some controls.

With navigation built straight in, NXP has configured the GPS to sense any impact the vehicle may be involved in and call out to emergency services as well as text loved ones to let them know an accident has happened. Bother the call and the text give the exact location within five feet of the incident to improve emergency response times.

We can sometimes be a little guilty of only focusing on NXP's NFC business because that is our area of expertise, but the firm is involved in many businesses including ID, RFID services and a few others. The innovative NXP Semiconductors electric motorcycle that uses NFC appears at most major events where NXP exhibits, so keep your eyes out for it."

A Faceoff Between 4 Enterprise Software Companies - Seeking Alpha

A Faceoff Between 4 Enterprise Software Companies - Seeking Alpha:

"The one thing that stands out here is that the numbers support the attractiveness of the software business. Perhaps the most important line here is returns on invested capital, as all of these firms use large acquisitions as a key growth strategy. Microsoft has been, by far, the most efficient at allocating its capital, despite some very well-documented acquisition misfires. That said, it has also been the slowest grower of the bunch, profit-wise. Oracle has the most solid top-to-bottom record here, with good growth, very high margins, and solid returns on capital. All of these companies carry reasonable debt burdens."
